Robert Watts es considerado como un artista enigmático amante de su país y las artes. De joven se unió a la Marina de los Estados Unidos y al término de su servicio se mudó a Nueva York donde dio inicio a sus estudios de arte. Conoció a Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg y Tom Wesselmann. Sin embargo, en los años 60 decidió abandonar el sistema de las galerías y centró sus conocimientos en torno a Fluxus, una fusión internacional a favor de promover las ideas de los artistas, poetas, diseñadores, científicos y compositores mediado por George Maciunas. Watts se integró perfectamente a este movimiento y aportó varias obras y proyectos, entre ellos la serie de sellos postales. En este proyecto, Watts colaboró con el coleccionista italiano Francesco Conz, con quien estableció una larga amistad y relación laboral.
Con humor e influencia de la cultura pop realizó docenas de sellos postales, los cuales revelan sus propios intereses por el whisky, las latas de aerosol, el sexo, los pechos y las letras del alfabeto. Los sellos fueron impresos por Conz y distribuidos a través del correo postal de Fluxus. El Museum of Modern Art de Nueva York cuenta con un número considerable de sellos, los cuales no fueron utilizados. También el Whitney Museum of American Art, el Centre Georges Pompidou de París, el Museo Reina Sofía en Madrid y el Tate Modern de Londres cuentan con obras suyas en su colección.

Robert Watts is considered an enigmatic artist who loved his country and the arts. When he was young, he joined the United States Navy and after graduating, he moved to New York where he began his artistic studies. He met Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg and Tom Wesselmann. Nevertheless, in the 60's he decided to abandon the gallery system and instead he centered his knowledge around Fluxus, an international fusion that meant to promote ideas from artists, poets, designers, scientists and composers, mediated by George Maciunas. Watts integrated himself perfectly in this movement and provided several works and projects, among them the series of post stamps. In this project, Watts collaborated with Italian collector Franceso Conz, with whom he established a long friendship as well as a professional relationship.
With humor and influence from pop culture, he produced dozens of post stamps, in which he reveals some of his interests, such as whisky, spray paint, sex, breasts and alphabet letters. These stamps were printed by Conz and distributed through Fluxus mail. The Museum of Modern Art in New York owns a considerable number of stamps that were never used. Also, Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre George Pompidou in Paris, Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid and Tate Modern in London have Watts's work in their collections.
